Robin’s return to the sea inspires a new wave of turtle champions
A rescued sea turtle returned to the Mediterranean this month in Antalya as conservation partners, hotels and local stakeholders came together to celebrate progress in protecting one of the region’s most iconic marine species. Hosted by the TUI Care Foundation’s TUI Turtle Aid Antalya project partner, the special event brought together turtle conservation experts and tourism businesses committed to creating safer environments for nesting sea turtles along Türkiye’s coastline.
Robin is a rehabilitated loggerhead sea turtle, and the day began with his release back into the sea. Robin’s journey from recovery to release is a powerful reminder of why protecting sea turtles matters and how collaborative conservation efforts can make a real difference. The event also recognised hotels that have successfully achieved Turtle-Friendly Business Certification, demonstrating their commitment to reducing disturbance to nesting turtles and helping safeguard important coastal habitats. Amongst those recognised was Robinson Nobilis, highlighting how tourism businesses can play an active role in protecting wildlife while supporting sustainable destinations.
Sea turtles face a range of threats, from habitat loss and pollution to human disturbance on nesting beaches. Through TUI Turtle Aid Antalya, the TUI Care Foundation and its partners are working to protect nesting areas, raise awareness amongst visitors and local communities and encourage more turtle-friendly practices across the tourism sector.
Events like this not only celebrate achievements but also help inspire more people to become part of the solution. Every protected nest, every responsible tourism business and every rescued turtle means a brighter future for these remarkable creatures.
