• TUI Forests Magazine

The brochure takes you on a journey to places where forests make a difference. It highlights Polylepis trees serving as natural water reservoirs in the Andes, mangroves protecting coastlines, and initiatives creating new prospects for local communities. Each number represents real impact: millions of trees planted and new opportunities for communities to build a sustainable future together.

On behalf of the Tourism Recovery Programme, Prof. Dr Harald Zeiss, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Tourism (Inatour) and Jara-Lea Mallwitz, Master’s student at the Harz University of Applied Sciences, have analysed the hurdles faced by small and medium-sized tourism enterprises in Africa. The central research question is: How do the framework conditions in the three African countries South Africa, Egypt and Kenya affect the development of tourism businesses? The study is based on expert interviews as well as an online survey of 206 participants of the Tourism Recovery Programme conducted between November 2021 and February 2022. The selected companies are participants of the Tourism Recovery Programme, implemented by enpact and TUI Care Foundation, are not older than 10 years, show social and ecological innovation potential and their existence was severely threatened by the effects of the pandemic.

  • Report “How to develop a Sustainable Food Destination”

Together with Futouris, we have implemented two projects on Lanzarote and Crete on the topic of sustainable food, focusing on the promotion of ecological cultivation methods of agricultural products as well as networking between producers and local tourism stakeholders. We have summarized the experiences from both projects in a report titled “How to develop a Sustainable Food Destination”. The report describes not only the prerequisites that are important to develop and position a sustainable food destination, but also key lessons learned. It also gives valuable advice and practical tips on which steps are most important. The findings of these two projects have helped us develop the TUI Field to Fork Programme, which is focused on enabling sustainable food production by establishing links with the tourism sector to create better income opportunities in rural communities.
