TUI Junior Academy La Palma
The volcanic eruption in La Palma in 2022 had long term consequences for those affected on the island. As well as the material losses and psychological effects, the local children faced an additional challenge in terms of their education and mental wellbeing. With the island now entering a reconstruction phase, identifying and treating child mental health issues is vital, and schools play a key role in this, sometimes being the only familiar space children have after an emergency.
TUI Junior Academy La Palma promotes the concept of protective wellbeing environments in different social settings including leisure and free time, sports and education. It creates a culture for organisations that work with children to nurture and encourage metal wellbeing, as well as offering students environmental education through nature-focused excursions and workshops.
The TUI Junior Academy La Palma focuses on the mental wellbeing of children by supporting protective environments which minimise risk and nurture health and wellbeing.
80 students and 60 teachers from over 10 schools and social support organizations in La Palma are receiving environmental information and are participating in activitiies such as an environmental workshop on ecological soap making and two excursions, including a beach clean-up in Tazacorte and a nature walk in the municipality, with a brief clean-up campaign in the area.
