TUI Futureshapers Cabo Verde

In 2022, two young people from Cape Verde were selected to undergo nine months of training with the Social Innovation Academy (SINA) in Uganda. Now, they are back in their home country to implement their own social innovation chapter and empower local young people to become drivers of their own future through a formal learning environment.

High youth unemployment and a dependency on tourism make Cape Verde particularly vulnerable to the impact of global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Job creation is therefore critical and social entrepreneurship can play a key role in creating meaningful and sustainable jobs for the younger population.

TUI Futureshapers Cape Verde has given two young leaders from Cape Verde the knowledge and skills to create a new social innovation academy in their homecountry which has been named the Morabeza Social Innovation Academy.

Together with its sister-institution in Zanzibar which was founded according to the same principles, Morabeza will provide personal development and purpose-discovery training as well as life coaching to 100 individuals.

The project promotes personal and professional growth and equips the participants with the skills to run their own social or environmental enterprises, which will continue to operate and create impact after the project ends. The enterprises are expected to become financially self-sufficient within the first three years of implementation, ensuring the sustainability of the project’s outcomes. In total, it is expected that the project will generate 22 new jobs.

Morabeza Social Innovation Academy is housed at TUI Futureshapers House, the TUI Care Foundation’s social hub in Sal that is helping turn social and environmental problems into entrepreneurial opportunities.

The project ended in December 2024.
