TUI Forest Kenya<\/h1><\/div>

Das Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, das sich auf etwa 28.000 Hektar erstreckt und den s\u00fcdlichen Tsavo West National Park abdeckt, dient als entscheidendes Habitat und Wanderkorridor f\u00fcr Wildtiere zwischen dem Tsavo East National Park und dem Tsavo West National Park. Dies macht es zu einem hoch gesch\u00e4tzten Erholungsgebiet f\u00fcr Touristen und hat \u00f6kologische Bedeutung. In den letzten zehn Jahren, besonders in den letzten beiden Jahren, f\u00fchrten anhaltende D\u00fcrreperioden zu erheblicher Degradierung. Die Verwaltung sch\u00e4tzt, dass 70 % des Gebiets durch Bodenerosion und Vegetationsverlust betroffen sind.<\/p>\n

Zus\u00e4tzlich wurde der Bura-Fluss innerhalb des Schutzgebiets durch Verschlammung beeintr\u00e4chtigt, was zu einem Verlust der Kanalisierung f\u00fchrte. Dies hatte erhebliche Auswirkungen auf die Produktivit\u00e4t des flussabw\u00e4rts gelegenen Waldes, unterdr\u00fcckte das Baumwachstum und f\u00fchrte zum vorzeitigen Absterben der B\u00e4ume.<\/p>\n

TUI Forest Kenya engagiert sich in der Anpflanzung neuer B\u00e4ume und unterst\u00fctzt die lokale Bev\u00f6lkerung dabei, durch gemeinschaftlich verwaltete Baumschulen und die Schaffung von waldbasierten Tourismusangeboten eine nachhaltige Lebensgrundlage aufzubauen. Das Projekt umfasst die Pflanzung von 40.000 einheimischen Setzlingen, die Wiederherstellung von 242.812 m2 Wald, die Einbindung von 1.400 Menschen in naturbezogene Tourismusangebote und von 720 Einheimischen in Wiederherstellungs- und Schutzma\u00dfnahmen.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

TUI Forest Kenya umfasst die Aufzucht und Anpflanzung von 40 000 einheimischen B\u00e4umen an zwei Standorten mit einer Fl\u00e4che von jeweils 121 406 m2, insgesamt also 242 812 m2, wobei einer der Standorte ein wichtiges Ufergebiet in der N\u00e4he des Flusses des Schutzgebiets ist. Dazu geh\u00f6ren der Aufbau und die Pflege von sieben kommunalen Baumschulen, die Schulung von Baumschultechnikern in verschiedenen Aspekten der Baumschulverwaltung und die Bereitstellung von Ger\u00e4ten wie Scheren, Veredelungsmessern und Spr\u00fchpumpen.<\/p>\n

Dar\u00fcber hinaus werden die Setzlinge aus den Baumschulen gekauft und im Schutzgebiet gepflanzt, wodurch die Gemeindemitglieder ein Einkommen erzielen und ihren Lebensstandard verbessern k\u00f6nnen. Die Pflanzaktion bezieht auch Touristen mit ein, die das Schutzgebiet besuchen, und bietet ihnen mit der Kampagne „Hinterlasse einen gr\u00fcnen Fu\u00dfabdruck“ eine Gelegenheit zum Erlebnistourismus.<\/p>\n

TIU Forest Kenya errichtet au\u00dferdem einen neuen solarbetriebenen Elektrozaun und unterh\u00e4lt einen bestehenden Zaun, um die Zerst\u00f6rung von Baumsetzlingen durch Wildtiere in dem Gebiet zu verhindern. Neu gebaute Wassertanks sorgen f\u00fcr eine ausreichende und konstante Wasserversorgung, um die Lebensf\u00e4higkeit der Baumsetzlinge zu gew\u00e4hrleisten, und die Ausbildung von zehn Ranger*innen in \u00f6kologischer \u00dcberwachung tr\u00e4gt zum besseren Schutz gef\u00e4hrdeter Arten bei.<\/p>\n

Insgesamt sind 720 Menschen aktiv an den Wiederherstellungs- und Erhaltungsma\u00dfnahmen beteiligt, einschlie\u00dflich Saatgut und Stecklinge, Sammeln, Vermehrung von Pflanzen, Aufforstungskampagnen, Instandhaltung und Bau von \u00d6kotourismus-Einrichtungen, wodurch der Lebensunterhalt vor Ort gesichert wird.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Projektpartner<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Die Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies sind eine Konstellation von insgesamt 33 Schutzgebieten innerhalb des Tsavo Conservation Area (TCA) \u00d6kosystems und haben sich zur Taita Taveta Wildlife Conservancies Association (TTWCA) zusammengeschlossen. Das TCA besteht aus dem Tsavo-Ost-Nationalpark, dem Tsavo-West-Nationalpark, dem S\u00fcd-Kitui-Nationalreservat und dem Chyulu-Hills-Nationalpark im S\u00fcdosten Kenias, dem Mkomazi-Wildreservat im Nordwesten Tansanias sowie den umliegenden Gruppenfarmen und Gemeindelandschaften, die zusammen etwa 5,8 Millionen Hektar (23.553 km2) der ber\u00fchmten Tsavo-Wildnislandschaft umfassen.<\/p>\n
